"Sensation of the Nation!" "Toast of the Coast!!" "The Human Orchid!!!" Gorgeous George, for all the world to see in all of his human gorgeousness!!!! When he began this little escapade wrestler George Raymond Wagner had all the fans hollering their heads off at him. By the end of his life (at age 48) on December 25, 1963, he'd traveled the globe, amassed (and lost!) several fortunes, married and been divorced from two women, sired a (non-wrestling) son, and left the world of Professional Wrestling a better place for his having graced it with his presence (according to most). He was male testosterone's answer to Mae West, and thought nothing of spending upwards of $1,000.00 per frilly-effeminate ring robe in a time when no self-respecting matman would wear such stuff ("Gorgeous" owned over a hundred like creations). Frank & Josef (of Hollywood, naturally!) "did" his hair on a daily basis, and television in its infancy embraced this living wedding cake with open antennae.
